Why Your Role Matters

The Student Engagement Librarian is a newly created professional role within the Library Student Engagement Team, in the Information Services Division. The role has been created to support the Team Leader, Library Student Engagement: it will design, plan and deliver student-focused events and activities, including a well-developed program of orientation events, which strengthen student wellbeing, connection and belonging.

The role reports to the Team Leader, Library Student Engagement and supports the Team Leader in supervising the casual Student Library Peer Mentors.

Main responsibilities Summary

  • Design, develop and deliver a highly engaging program of activities, including a well-developed program of orientation events scaffolded around the Library’s Digital Information Skills Framework, to support and foster student wellbeing and engagement with the Library
  • Manage operations around event organisation including in-library venue preparation, room/space bookings, preparing event materials when required, organising promotions aligned with Library branding, participant organisation, and attendee communications
  • Support the Team Leader, Library Student Outreach in overseeing student Library Peer Mentors which includes managing schedules and verifying timesheets.
  • Conduct regular evaluation of, and report on, the quality of events and activities to inform continuous improvement and promote the value of the services. This includes gathering student and staff feedback
  • Work collaboratively across the Library matrix to develop and deliver a well-balanced suite of student services, events and activities.
  • Represent the team on relevant Library committees

Who You Are

We are looking for someone who is excited about UNSW’s vision and values, who loves to work collaboratively, who is organised and takes initiative. We’d love you to come equipped with:

  • Demonstrated experience in the design and delivery of successful events and activities, ideally in a higher education environment
  • Experience liaising with external and internal stakeholders to coordinate events, leveraging event promotions and technology for streamlined processes
  • A passion for student engagement and wellbeing
  • The ability to be flexible and think creatively: things don’t always go as planned!
  • Demonstrated communication skills and relationships building skills
  • Proven ability to interpret educational frameworks to develop tailored educational programs and content that meet the diverse needs of a student body
  • Ability to analyse and interrogate data and deliver reviews and reports with evidence driven insights and recommendations
  • Previous experience managing team rosters and budgets (highly regarded but not essential)

Having a degree from a higher education institution would also be highly regarded. A Library related qualification and/or having the eligibility for associate membership of the Australian Library and Information Association would be ideal but not essential.

Due to the nature of the position, the role will be primarily based on campus (you will be rotating between our main Kensington and Paddington Campus). The role operates Monday to Friday, business hours.
