The Opportunity

  • Work with some of UNSW’s leading academics and a range of climate tech SME’s and startups to help fast-track commercially viable and scalable solutions, with a significant impact on emissions reduction.
  • Full-time, 8-month parental leave contract from July 2025 to April 2026
  • $123,044-$138,637+ 17% super + leave loading, pro-rata

The Trailblazer for Recycling and Clean Energy (TRaCE) was awarded to the University of New South Wales (UNSW) and the University of Newcastle (UoN) to boost research and development and drive commercialisation outcomes with industry over the four years to 2026-27. The two universities have joined forces to lead this $280 million program comprised of a range of research commercialisation initiatives that will help Australia and the world fast-track the transition to sustainable recycling and clean energy solutions and systems.

The Program Manager is responsible for delivering a range of programs within TRaCE, including matched R&D funding for SMEs & Startups, industry focused PhDs, a two-way secondment program between industry and research and Enterprise Academics. Each of these programs are focused on paving new pathways and incentives for researchers and industry partners to commercialise and progress climate technologies to market.

You’ll work closely with the Research & Commercialisation Director to ensure each program provides new, value-added incentives, and influences new ways of working and policies that and contribute to a stronger commercial, entrepreneurial and research translation culture within UNSW.

The role reports to the Research & Commercialisation Director and has one direct report.

About the successful applicant

You can demonstrate your experience working across multiple programs and projects to achieve deliverables on-time and within budget, as well as the following Skills and Experience:

  • Ability to exercise independent judgement and problem solving, with a high degree of autonomy, and the ability to resolve issues as they arise.
  • High level of interpersonal, consultation, influencing and negotiation skills with a proven ability to build relationships and communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of budgeting, reporting and resource allocation.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and productively within a team, but also to take initiative and work independently while managing competing demands.
  • Advanced level of computer literacy with excellent skills in Microsoft Office applications and software tools.
  • An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
