About UNSW:

UNSW isn’t like other places you’ve worked. Yes, we’re a large organisation with a diverse and talented community; a community doing extraordinary things. Together, we are driven to be thoughtful, practical, and purposeful in all we do. Taking this combined approach is what makes our work matter. It’s the reason we’re one of the top 20 universities in the world and a member of Australia’s prestigious Group of Eight. If you want a career where you can thrive, be challenged and do meaningful work, you’re in the right place.

Why your Role Matters:

Join UNSW’s Division of Societal Impact, Equity and Engagement (SIEE) — a team dedicated to fostering inclusivity and driving positive change through engagement with staff, students, and the wider community. This division plays a key role in strengthening UNSW’s reputation as a leader in transformative education, innovative research, and meaningful global engagement.

As Web Lead, you will manage and optimise web experiences for key audiences including Alumni, Donors, Industry Partners, Government, Community, and Media. This role sits within the Digital Experience team and works closely with faculties, schools, and divisions to enhance their digital presence.

Rather than creating content, this role is focused on content editing and optimisation. You will act as a subject matter expert, guiding stakeholders on how to structure and refine existing content to meet best practice digital standards and deliver effective, user-centred web experiences.

We are looking for someone with proven experience in content editing and web optimisation, ideally within higher education, government, or publishing. Strong writing skills are valued, but this is not a content creation role. People management experience will also be highly regarded.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of two, contributing to a data-driven and audience-focused team with a demonstrated commitment to collaboration, excellence and continuous improvement. Provide leadership support and coaching to evolve the team’s capabilities in line with global best practice across audience strategy, SEO, experimentation, user experience, analytics and project management.
  • Oversee and project manage a range of web projects with a focus on enhancing the web experience for key personas in line with business goals, ensuring scope and budget are met and deliverables are completed on time, including the management of external agencies.
  • Analyse user data and conduct research on UNSW’s market, competitors, audience behaviours and pain points to identify opportunities to meet user needs.
  • Conduct website audits and develop content and audience strategies in collaboration with Faculty and Division subject matter experts, with a focus on SEO.
  • Collaborate with UX Lead in the development of sitemaps, user flows and wireframes to communicate information architecture.
  • Manage reporting on website performance, audience behaviours and market analysis, and collaborate with Product Owners and the Web & UX Manager to prioritise the web roadmap for Alumni, Donors, Industry Partners, Government, Community and Media audiences.
  • Design and lead an effective Web experimentation program that supports both organic and paid marketing strategies as part of the larger experimentation capability within the MDX team.
  • Provide technical advice and guidance to internal stakeholders in relation to web content functionality and accessibility.

Skills and Experience

  • A relevant tertiary qualification and relevant experience or an equivalent level of knowledge gained through any combination of education, training, and student recruitment experience.
  • Experience working with website development platforms, with Adobe Marketing Cloud, specifically Adobe Experience Manager, Adobe Analytics, and Adobe Target experience preferred.
  • Understanding of user experience best practices.
  • Commercial acumen and knowledge of digital marketing and ecommerce, with an understanding of sales funnels and activation.
  • Proven experience in end-to-end digital project management using waterfall and agile methodologies.
  • Demonstrated experience in Search Engine Optimisation including keyword research, on-page SEO, content design and performance analysis.
  • People management skills with demonstrated experience in managing direct reports.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to engage people of all ages, including those from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to liaise effectively with all levels of students, staff and external stakeholders. High level of attention to detail and ability to work under pressure and to strict deadlines.
