Position Summary

A Research Assistant (Level 5) provides technical and research assistance to the research project/team.

 

This role will:

  • Attend research meetings and training sessions and take minutes.
  • Respond to routine enquiries relating to research.
  • Undertake unsupervised research support tasks consistent with established methodologies (may include lab or field work).
  • Maintain research databases, records and publication registers.
  • Organise fieldwork arrangements.
  • Cooperate with all health & safety policies and procedures of the university and take all reasonable care to ensure that your actions or omissions do not impact on the psychosocial or physical health and safety of yourself or others.

 

A person engaged is generally expected to have the following skills and experience:

  1. Proficiency in CAD Software:
  • Strong hands-on experience with CAD tools, preferably CATIA or Fusion 360.
  • Ability to translate conceptual designs into industrial working designs.
  1. 3D Modelling and Prototyping:
  • Experience in 3D modelling, ensuring accuracy for physical prototyping.
  • Familiarity with 3D printing processes to verify and refine designs.
  1. Engineering Background:
  • A graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechatronics Engineering.
  1. Iteration and Design Optimization:
  • Ability to perform multiple design iterations to achieve optimal results.
  • Understanding of design testing and verification through prototypes.
  1. Collaboration and Teamwork:
  • Strong collaborative skills to work in a dynamic, team-based environment.
  • Open to feedback and able to incorporate changes effectively.
  1. Attention to Detail:
  • Keen eye for detail, ensuring precision in design execution and functionality.
  1. Problem Solving and Innovation:
  • Creative problem-solving abilities to address design challenges.
  • Innovative mindset for improving and optimizing designs.
